Re: Calculating current with Vref pin (a4982, a4988, a5984)
The current setting and the stepper rating is meant for each motor coil individually. The motor can hande 2A on each coil and the driver regulates current based on the two independant shunt resistors....

Thank You for answer. I have 1.7A motors and stepper driver that i burned (a4982) can handle up to 2A according to doc. My mistake. :) Anyway from which current I should use heat sink on stepper...
View ArticleSource for brackets with 25mm on-center slots instead of 30?
Every NEMA 17 bracket I've found has 30mm on-center mounting slots. Does anyone have a source for ones with 25mm on-center slots? OR slots that run perpendicular to the motor shaft instead of...

I don't believe that "on-center" is a term for anything. Based off of your description, do you mean an 90 degree bracket with a 25mm center to center hole spacing for the mount? If you found what you...

I use heatsink and fan for all my controllers . Just to be on the safe side during overnight print jobs.

Get a piece of 2" square or 2" x 1.5" aluminum tubing. Drill holes for the motor shaft and mounting screws. Drill holes in the side or bottom for mounting the mount on the t-slot. No fancy tools...

Thanks guys. The idea was to just buy off the shelf. :)

I just binned my 2130s today because Im fed up with the drivers overheating, my motors overheating and failed prints due to the overheating issues even at slower speeds and vastly reduced accels. I...

TMC2130s are ok on Cartesian printers if you take account of their lower maximum current rating compared to A4988 etc. This means you have to choose motors with higher resistance and inductance than...

QuoteBanana_Luke I have active cooling and heatsinks on the Chip. Just a comment, you may know it: the heatsink must be installed at the opposite side of the circuit board, not on the chip. I bought...

This is a long overdue answer... I spent a lot of time fidling around with the TMC2130s... douh... never stop a running system... and... I couldn't get them running... partially yes... Now I switched...

I fell into the same "trap" with the 2130's. Purchased them to make the machine quieter.. Installed on the X and Y axis, configured the firmware and fired it up....holy sh@t I thought the axis were...

Like I said in this post [reprap.org], TMC2130s are good if you have low-current motors to suit them and preferably 24V power too. So you may need to change your motors and up the power supply voltage...

The 0.85A motors are a possible choice, but with only 12V power I suggest you use the motor EMF calculator at reprapfirmware.org to check the XY movement speed you will get before the torque starts to...

View ArticleRe: TMC 2130 Love-Hate Relation
That makes sense to me, since the inductance stores energy. The higher the current, the more energy. The driver has to switch the coils against their natural current flow, so there is extra time...
View ArticleRe: TMC 2130 Love-Hate Relation
250mA motor current would be too low. I suggest you base the calculations on the actual motor current being about 75% of the rated current.
