Re: Estimating stepper torque
Hi Traumflug, That seems to be the case till you reach corner speed, according to [www.geckodrive.com] But it is unclear to me whether we are passing that limit or not on our machines. misan
View ArticleRe: Speed-dependent acceleration
QuotemisanTrouble is that stepper's torque depends on the speed of rotation (rate of steps). The faster the speed the lower the torque. True only with old style, not constant current stepper drivers....
View ArticleRe: Estimating stepper torque
Calculate it :) You have a rough steps/mm value, you have a speed expectation, you know the pulley's diameter, so you can calculate RPM at maximum speed.
View ArticleRe: Speed-dependent acceleration
Hi Traumflug, But what to do if you want to go beyond the constant torque zone? (Please note that torque is not even constant but higher than holding-torque for a while [www.ti.com] ) As the speed...
View ArticleRe: Speed-dependent acceleration
The constant torque zone is when the current in the coil is limited by the pot on the driver, meaning its working how its supposed to be. Now in an inductor, when the voltage is applied the current...
View ArticleRe: Specs for Stepper Motors?
On the same topic - the voltage for the steppers is not mentioned in many of the pages of the Prusa i3 builds. The Ramps 1.4 circuit diagram shows 12V supply on the drivers, but many kits I have found...
View ArticleRe: Specs for Stepper Motors?
On label the physical properties are the coil resistance and max current. The voltage is supposed to be a relation of these two in a context where the motor would be supplied with dc voltage. But its...
View ArticleRe: Stepper motor breather hole.
Looks like you can seal the openings on a stepper motor to make them dust, and waterproof. Unless there is some thing else that I'm not aware of that make a wet/dry stepper motor different.

Haha yes i like that, its quite extreme :) Nice one :)

Hi all, I find all the above verry interesting, I have a small five wire stepper with no markings, I would like to re wire it as a four wire, the diagrams above though clear to understand using four...

View ArticleWill this stepper work with ramps1.4? (3 phase)
Hi all, I've got a nema 23 motor, 4.32V 1.8A Japan Servo KT56JM4-552 Here's the specs. [paroco.hihosting.hinet.net] The motor is 3 phase, is it possible to get this to work with ramps1.4? Thanks, Vaughan
View ArticleRe: Will this stepper work with ramps1.4? (3 phase)
The pololus are stepper driver on ramps and their outputs are for 2 coils only, so wont work. You would need to remove or not install a pololu driver, use the step/dir/en signals from that header, and...

Thanks for the help NOOB....ended up ordering a nema 17 2 phase..to be like the cool kids
