X, Z motors not working, Y and E does

Hello everyone, as the title of this topic states I'm having some troubles with getting my stepper motors working. I've wired up everything to RAMPS 1.4 according to [reprap.org], uploaded a test...

Re: X, Z motors not working, Y and E does

Nevermind, found out what was wrong. Very stupid of me, apparently Ramps didn't fit well on Arduino's sockets. Now all of the 5 motors are working! :)

Re: Microstepping not constant

Thank you guys for the link. I have applied the mod and made some videos. All tests were made with 1/8-microstepping and the same program on the Arduino, I just swaped the drivers. Here is the...

Re: Calculating motor torque required

So pretty much lets just ignore the frequency from the micro-controller. It sounds like I have the math right for figuring out what torque I need to produce from the load end of things and now I just...

Re: Microstepping not constant

If you are getting noise from your steppers try upping your PS voltage. The switching frequency is dependent on the voltage so 24V should bring the frequency outside of hearing range. This has made a...

Re: Microstepping not constant

@jzatopa: I'am not using my steppers for printers. I´ve build a pan/tilt-head, which can move my camera. Going to 24V is not possible, since it is a portable setup which runs on 12V-batteries. I was...

How do I calculate what size stepper I need

So I am building a larger printer. And I am using 3 long 640 mm 16mm rods for a "Y" axis with 3 long pillow block bearings to go on the shafts. Those blocks will be moved by a motor. That is the "Y"...

Stepper motor breather hole.

The leads exiting a stepper motor expose the internal copper wires. Is this a breather hole. Can I apply silicone to block the hole to prevent dirt from entering. I suspect it's not recommended, but I...

Re: Stepper motor breather hole.

I would specifically use high-temp silicone. Or if wire isolation is the problem, maybe heat shrink tubing.

Re: Stepper motor breather hole.

Tks NoobMan, I was going to use automotive red high temperature silicone. So no issues with ozone if it's sealed up. I was thinking of letting the motor run for awhile to evaporate any solvents that...

Re: Stepper motor breather hole.

To stop dirt from entering there's no need to make it airtight. Airtight isn't a good idea, because warming and cooling will expand/shrink the air inside and with an airtight venting hole expanding...

Re: Stepper motor breather hole.

If there is room between the wires and the opening they come from, i guess that is perhaps because they decided to use lower gauge wires, or a rubber ring there may be missing, but otherwise the gap...

Re: Stepper motor breather hole.

QuoteNoobMan You cant really seal the motor because it still has opening at least near the shaft if not also on the back... Most of mines have opening on the back so i have some small patch of tape...
