Re: Nema 17 motor wires

Thanks for the wiki link. Just did not want to damage the motor by putting wires in a random order.

Silent StepStick What Controller

I am looking into the Silent StepStick Stepper Motor Drivers and was wondering; does anyone have any experience of them? What controller would be the best to use for these on a delta machine?

Re: Threaded Rod NEMA 17

They never did bring this to market and I wrote to them asking recently. You can't even get them to custom cut for you their motor + 5mm either nor will they sell just the 5mm ACME. :(

DRV8825 vs TMC2100 vs THB6128

One would think different, but i definitaley see the difference between 32 and 16 microsteps in terms of print quality. When looking at a flat wall my extruder (BulldogXL/E3D V6) has much less...

Re: DRV8825 vs TMC2100 vs THB6128

Keep in mind when you go to higher microstepping ratios torque goes down and your print speed may have to drop because the controller has limited steps per sec. Arduino/RAMPS can only spit out 40k...

Re: DRV8825 vs TMC2100 vs THB6128

If I understood correctly, the TMC2100 is actually a hybrid between 16 and 256µSteps/Step. When even 8-Bit electronics give out 1 step as set with the M1,M2,M3 Jumpers to 1/16th microstepping the...

Stepper motor for prusa i3

I am currently sourcing stepper motors for my prusa i3. Is this motor ok? The holding torque looks alright (5.0kg/cm) but the motor is short length is only 34mm. Is it fine?

Re: DRV8825 vs TMC2100 vs THB6128

Both Oriental Motor web site and Gecko Drives web sites have good explanations of stepper motor basics, including explanations of drive techniques. See here for an explanation of microstepping and...

Re: Stepper jams/sticks

will overheating cause them to jam or stick? Or is the voltage basically 'locking' the stepper magnetically? They don't seem to be overheating (staying in the 45c range)

Re: Stepper jams/sticks

Overheating might possibly cause them to stick because of thermal expansion, but I don't know if that actually happens or not. The current only locks the stepper magnetically in the sense that it...

Re: choice of stepper motors

I recommend to use the same motors for x, y and z axis. You can look for them on ebay. There you will find offers with a bundle of 4 or 5 stepper motors relatively cheap. The only thing important for...

Re: choice of stepper motors

Motor sizes are determined by torque required to move their load and the way you want to move it. For a given load, higher acceleration means higher torque is required. You can figure out...

Stepper Motor Angle and Time Delay

Hi guys, I have no experience programming stepper motors in the past but I want to know if it is possible to program a motor to rotate 45 degrees every 1.5 hours or 90 minutes. The motor I'm using is...

Re: Stepper Motor Angle and Time Delay

They answer is yes it is possible and relatively easy if you have a driver with step and direction inputs. You simply have to pulse the step input with the correct delay between pulses. If it is a...

Re: DRV8825 vs TMC2100 vs THB6128

I don't have any of these new drivers but I assume you can adjust the current to the steppers. If so, what is the current you have set for your steppers? What was it previously set to with the DRV8825's?
