Re: Open Source DC or BLDC controller

I'm using a stack of Arduino shields DC motor control, firmware at https://github.com/ezrec/BrundleFab-firmware It is very big and bloaty, and the DC motor control is very experimental, but the...

Re: Servo motors on Prusa i3

I'm working on a similar project - I'm working on using a Adafruit Trinket Pro (ATmega323) for my ink sprayer control for my powder bed - Y axis is a DC motor + encoder (600 DPI) with a InkShield. The...

Re: Servo motors on Prusa i3

I am in the process of migrating to a powerful 32-bit platform that will integrate motion planning and control loops. Most likely, control loops will take into account position and speed control, with...

No retract with DRV8825 on Rumba

I have a Type A Machines Series 1 2014 with the Rumba 1.4 controller. It originally came with A4988 drivers on it. I had consistent issues with skipping on the extruder stepper when the driver got...

Re: No retract with DRV8825 on Rumba

QuoterazzleThe DRV8825 behaves like the DRV pin is not hooked up. But the A4988 works just fine. I guess you mean the Dir pin. This can be masured with a voltage meter. 5V in one direction, 0V in the...

Re: No retract with DRV8825 on Rumba

Oops, yes i meant the DIR pin. I will do some testing once my current print ends. But how would the driver chip affect how the Rumba board sends Hi/Lo to the DIR pin? I mean if the A4988 is getting...

Re: No retract with DRV8825 on Rumba

QuoterazzleI mean if the A4988 is getting Hi/Lo on the dir pin from the board, wouldn't the DRV8825 get Hi/Lo as well? It should. If it doesn't, something is broken.

To Turn Fast or Slow, That is My Question

I'm a newbie. I want to use a small stepper to slowly tilt a 16" globe to simulate the seasons. Another would spin the globe in real time. The final drives would run indefinitely and extremely slowly....

Re: To Turn Fast or Slow, That is My Question

Steppers have their maximum torque at zero RPM, so that's their optimum :-) To do just one rotation per day you likely want some gearing. It you move that directly you have just 3200 steps, which...

Change of motors

OK so I built the Mendel using 17HS19-1684S stepper motors for all 3 axis and extruder. I then purchased the tricolour upgrade kit which came with different smaller motors (JK42HS34-1334A). I decided...

Sourcing stepper motors for Rostock mini pro

Hi to you all, I'm trying to build my very first 3d printer and I wanted to go for a rostock mini pro, I ordered a RAMPS and arduino (I know not part of the original design, but I wanted to try an...

Re: Sourcing stepper motors for Rostock mini pro

Less torque means less acceleration, that's all. Less acceleration also means more precision. And pretty sure none of the steppers connected to a RepRap controller reaches 55 Ncm anyways.

Re: Sourcing stepper motors for Rostock mini pro

Typo on the wiki then, any lower limit to that "less torque more precision" rule ?

Re: Sourcing stepper motors for Rostock mini pro

I don't know suppliers in Ireland, but both RepRapPro and Think3DPrint3D in the UK sell stepper motors for 3D printers. See [reprappro.com] and [www.think3dprint3d.com]. But it's often cheaper to buy...
