Re: 86HS120 motors and board connections for driver

If the m880a enable pin is not connected the driver will be enabled all the time. If you want to enable via software you need to connect it to the enable pin. The a4988 shorts the sleep and reset...

XY table from DVD drives - how to make a grbl-compatible stepper driver?

Hi, I have disassembled two DVD drives. The goal is to build a mini laser engraver, but I'd like to start with an XY table and deal with the laser diode later. My aim is to have the kit open for...

Re: XY table from DVD drives - how to make a grbl-compatible stepper driver?

You will find it much easier to use standard A4988-based stepper driver modules than the L293D, and they will work much better (i.e. faster because of the constant current drive, suitable with a wide...

Re: XY table from DVD drives - how to make a grbl-compatible stepper driver?

I see some StepSticks locally available for approx. $5. Did you mean these? Anyway, I'd like to try building my own driver with the parts I got right on my desk: L293D and ATtiny85. There are some...

Extruder stepper missing steps..

After 3 years, the stepper motor of my extruder now starts to mis steps or slip. It is not the gear on the axle, but the motor itself. It ran 2 years on Gen6 and now over half a year on Ramps. No...

Re: Extruder stepper missing steps..

It's more likely that the stepper motor driver module that drives that motor has developed a fault. Check the connections are sound, check the current adjustment, and if that doesn't solve the...

Re: Extruder stepper missing steps..

No relief :-( I replaced the extruder polulu, but symptoms are the same, I canhold te gear without force and when holding the gear, the motor will stall over 1 third of the circumference a few times...

What voltage specs for Nema17 on Ramps ?

When googling on E-bay, I see nema's for 12V , for 24V, but i also see specs as rated voltage = 2Vdc or 4vdc and different... How should I read that to put one on my ramps stepper with polulu ? Thomas

Re: Extruder stepper missing steps..

Did you check the current setting? Stepper motors can jam, and the windings can go open-circuit. There is not much else that can go wrong with them. If you can turn the motor easily in both directions...

Re: What voltage specs for Nema17 on Ramps ?

The pololu drivers are constant current. Look for stepper motors with a rated current of 1 to 1.5A per phase. The voltage at the rated current should be 4V or lower if you intend to use a 12V supply....

I was considering these: Nema would that work, based on your calculations ?

Re: What voltage specs for Nema17 on Ramps ?

QuoteReplace I was considering these: Nema would that work, based on your calculations ? The 2.5A rated current is more than the Pololu drivers can supply. You would only get about half the rated...

Re: Extruder stepper missing steps..

So, I have replaced the polulu, no refief Now I have replaced the nema17, same problem persists. I notice there is a small wobble in the gears with a moment of slightly more friction. However, No real...

Re: Axis steppers stop after first command

While still trouble shooting this I noticed that if I move the Y axis 10 then move Z axis 10 I get a slight movement in the Y axis while the Z is moving.

Re: Axis steppers stop after first command

It sounds as if when you command X+10, the printer is interpreting this as a command to move to absolute position X=10 instead of to X=10 relative to the current position. In other words, it is...

dc42 thank you for the reply. I don't know how I messed that up so I uploaded a known working firmware and it too does the same thing. It must be something else. I'm really stumped. All I did to the...
