Re: Belt Drive Expected Resolution vs. Accuracy With MicroStepping.

Great suggestion to use a smaller pulley to improve accuracy, I will look into it. Tks.

Presently I'm having some difficulty in determining how many 2mm GT2 belts that I will need to gang together to move a mass of ~12 lbs with a 280 oz-in stepper motor. There are two results to choose from, one is based on the working tension, the other is based on torque :S

Given:
1. Belt: 2mm pitch GT2 belt, 6 mm wide.
2. Pulley: 20 tooth, 40mm circumference, 5mm bore, 1.5mm set screw, 2 flanges with hub.
3. Allowable Working Tension Per 1.0 inch of belt width = 25.0 lbs (111 N).
4. Moving mass: ~12.0 lbs.

5. Working tension for a 6mm width belt: 25.54mm/6mm = 4.26, 25.0 lbs /4.26 = 5.8 lbs/6mm width belt.
6. Qty of belts required (working tension): 12.0 lbs/ 5.8 lbs/6mm width belt = 2.1 belts (working tension).
7. 2mm pitch, 6mm wide GT2 belt, 20 tooth pulley: Rated Torque 1.57 lb-in.
8. Stepper motor torque: 280 oz-in/16oz/lb = 17.5lb-in.
9. Qty of belts required (torque): 17.5lb-in/ 1.57 lb-in = 11.2 belts (torque).
